Who the heck is guest room status?

Guest Room Status has always been about recognizing that nothing stays the same forever. Though the band finds itself at home somewhere in the space between anthemic pop-punk and intimate midwest emo, they are constantly exploring the uneasy feeling of noticing your life is passing faster than you can figure out what to do with.

On their latest EP, “Eventually?” the four-piece outfit from Ottawa, Canada is no longer blindsided by change. Through a whirlwind of propulsive riffs, a frantically melodic rhythm section, and cathartically shoutable lyricism, the six song EP details the sharp awareness that a period of time is coming to an end. On the cusp of the unending past and the unknowable future, Guest Room Status uses their distinct brand of nostalgia-soaked rock to create a moment worth revisiting.

Ottawa-based indie-rock band Guest Room Status has released their new EP Eventually?, a six-track journey through change, nostalgia, and the complexities of growing older. Known for blending anthemic pop-punk with midwest emo influences, the band channels the tension of life moving too quickly while you’re still figuring it all out. Highlights include the anthemic “Losing Track” and the introspective “Stall at the Start,” both capturing the restlessness of wanting to move forward but feeling stuck. Eventually? is a heartfelt exploration of the present, set against the backdrop of a nostalgic past.

“Miranda,” the latest from Guest Room Status, occupies a similar niche to recent works from Bicycle Inn and Hot Mulligan, bridging the divide between intimate emo and summery pop-punk. It’s as good as anything the genres have produced in recent years, and a great sign that the band’s got something special up their sleeve.
